Shibari is the art of Japanese rope bondage, drawing from art-forms such as Hojo-jitsu, Kabuki theatre and other, mostly Edo-period disciplines embedded in the Japanese culture. Within this practice, Kinbaku is used to describe a more erotic, emotional and sensual style of tying. This consensual practice, based on the exchange of power dynamics, is a mentally and physically complex interaction, rooted in the deep, nonverbal exchange between both partners.
